RIYADH: Saudi Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the State Department headquarters in Washington.
Pompeo welcomed Prince Khalid and expressed his aspiration to further strengthen Saudi-US ties. During their meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and the latest regional and international developments.
They also discussed efforts to resolve regional crises, including Iran’s destabilizing practices and Saudi support for the political process in Yemen.
On Friday, Saudi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Assaf said that the threat from Iran is the main challenge facing Arabs. “One of the most dangerous forms of terrorism and extremism is what Iran practices through its blatant interference in Arab affairs, and its militias ... the Revolutionary Guards in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen, which requires cooperation from us to confront,” he said.
Earlier, a high-profile meeting of foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said only a political solution would resolve the crisis in Yemen. They affirmed their “commitment to preserve the unity, sovereignty and territorial independence and integrity” of Yemen.
