Saudi Arabia calls for tough international stand against Houthi militias

NEW YORK: Saudi Arabia has called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities by taking a firm stand against Iranian-backed Houthi militias.

The appeal during a session of the UN Security Council came after Houthi terrorists used ballistic missiles and drones laden with explosives to target populated areas in the Kingdom.

Dr. Khaled Manzlawiy, acting permanent representative of Saudi Arabia to the UN, told delegates that the actions of the militias were a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian law and relevant Security Council resolutions.

During his address, Manzlawiy said 2019 marked the 20th anniversary of the Security Council’s adoption of its resolution 1265 to protect civilians in armed conflict, which served to reinforce the Kingdom’s push for the international community to adopt a unified and comprehensive approach to shielding civilians from fighting.
