RIYADH: The King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz International Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID) launched a coexistence forum in the Spanish city of Cordoba, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.
The launch brought together 21 global organizations and also marked the International Day of Living Together in Peace, an event from the UN to promote peace, tolerance, inclusion, understanding and solidarity.
The forum was organized by Paradigma Cordoba Foundation, the Nicolas Puech Foundation, the Salam for Cultural Communication Center and local authorities.
The secretary-general of KAICIID, Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muaammar, praised Cordoba for embodying all forms of “fruitful coexistence” and cohesion.
“Cordoba witnessed a rare period of coexistence and tolerance during the Islamic reign, where people of different religions and cultures lived together in prosperity,” said Bin Muaammar.
“So is there a better place than Cordoba to celebrate the UN’s International Day of Living Together in Peace? We should benefit from Cordoba’s experiences and harness them to establish optimistic perspectives for a better future,” he added.
UNESCO describes Cordoba as a “historical ensemble of extraordinary value” because of its “living expression of different cultures” that have existed in the city over time.
