Mine blast kills, wounds 5 children in Syria’s Homs

Syria’s official news agency SANA reported that the explosion occurred in the area of Housh Hajou in the northern parts of the province on Wednesday evening, adding that some of the wounded children were in critical condition. It also said that the wounded had been rushed to al-Bassel Hospital in Karm al-Louz to receive due medical care. According to Doctor Naser Edris, the director of the hospital, the two children lost their lives because of severe wounds caused by shrapnel, which also inflicted injuries on the other three. The report added that foreign-backed terrorists, ahead of their defeat in the region, had planted mines and explosive devices in rural areas and areas surrounding residential neighborhoods to target civilians. Last week, at least five people were killed after terrorists from to the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group detonated an explosive-rigged vehicle in the vicinity of a telecommunication center in the Kurdish-held town of al-Qahtaniya in the northeastern province of Hasakah. Syria, gripped by militancy since 2011 that has killed hundreds of thousands, has managed to take back control of many territories from Daesh and other terrorist groups. The devastating war has also displaced millions of people inside the Arab country.
