RIYADH: Prince Sultan bin Salman, chairman of the board of trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research (KSCDR), directed the center to start receiving qualitative research projects for its 2020 research plan. The center is looking for studies related to disabilities in the Kingdom, prevention, early detection and intervention, and expansion of the relevant programs such as prenatal screening, testing and early-birth screening.

Dr. Ola Abu Sukkar, KSCDR executive director, explained that the center is strengthening its national scientific role and enhancing its mission of serving people through its academic activities. She added that the center’s strategy has three key aims: Focusing on building a comprehensive, scientific database to provide accurate information on the proportion and distribution of individuals with disabilities in the Kingdom, the causes and prevention of various disabilities and to prepare empirical research on effective interventions.

In August, KSCDR and Saudi Human Rights Commission signed a memorandum of understanding to protect the rights of persons with disabilities and to achieve the best standards in this domain.
