A Saudi interior design firm is hoping to be sitting pretty with its latest piece of furniture — a hexagon-shaped chair with calming qualities.
Shadow design studio’s wooden Equal chair has been designed to help take the stress out of daily life.
University instructor Olfat Barayan, who founded the Jeddah-based enterprise, bases her furniture products around the human form, and chose to make her new chair from wood not only to offer comfort but peace of mind too.
According to Marjut Wallenius, a docent and doctor of psychology at the University of Tampere, in Finland, wood has stress-reducing effects on people.
Made of Swedish wood, the six-legged chair has been built to satisfy the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of the user.
It uses fabric and bamboo screens to provide different levels of privacy and comfort and is ideal for reading or meditation. The chair would also not look out of place in a hotel lobby or spa.
Available in four designs and with different fabrics and colors, it can be modified to suit customer preferences.
Shadow was established in 2016 and provides innovative design solutions, focusing on designing unique interior spaces and special furniture pieces. The Equal chair can be ordered through Shadow’s Instagram account @shadow_olfat_barayan.
